Our innovative new building contains three classrooms at ground level and a dining room with catering facilities in the basement below. For the first time, cooked lunches will be available to all pupils and staff and the additional classrooms will free up space for more specialist subject teaching rooms elsewhere in the school. The new building occupies a space that previously accommodated a portacabin, now no longer required. The basement stretches out underneath the playground beyond the footprint of the ground floor level. In this way, the building fills an awkward, under-utilised corner of the school, without losing any playground space. It was planned around a protected lime tree, which now forms the centrepiece of a small garden area and the roofline slopes up and away from the perimeter walls so that the building has low visual impact from outside the school site. Sustainability was a key priority in the design of the building, which incorporates long-life low-maintenance materials, energy-saving construction and flexibility of use.
We are delighted to announce the introduction of three scholarships for pupils entering the school at Year 4. These are two awards for children who show outstanding academic ability and one all rounder award for a child who displays a sound standard academically and shows exceptional ability in either Music of Sport. In addition, financial support in the form of means-tested bursaries are also available for parents unable to afford the standard fees and may meet up to 100% of the remaining tuition fees, depending on the personal circumstances of the applicant. For further information, please telephone the Registrar on 020 8673 7573

Year 3 enjoyed four sunny but chilly days in the Ashdown Forest.
Hot off the press, news of some quite phenomenal senior school exam results. We have gained offers of places for fourteen children at Alleyn's, a dozen boys at Dulwich College and nine girls at JAGS, each of which figure is a record for Hornsby House, amongst excellent results at many other fine schools. Our forty-six children in the top year have secured a staggering twenty-two scholarships and exhibitions, including seventeen academic awards. Our congratulations to this wonderful cohort of children. Jon Gray
As ever the Toy Fair was a huge success and we look forward to letting you know how many hundreds of pounds were raised for the Disaster Emergency Committee appeal for Haiti.
Year 5 & 6 girls will be treated to a Hockey Masterclass on 28th January by former GB Olympic Hockey Team captain, Jason Laslett. Capped 190 times during the eight years that he played for GB, he represented his country at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and again in Atlanta in 1996 as Captain. This is a fantastic opportunity for the girls to learn from an international player and will be an exciting start to Hornsby House's Hockey season.
Representatives from Cape Adventure visited the school on Tuesday to give a presentation to Year 6 parents about their centre in the far north west of Scotland, that Year 6 will go to for their school Journey. Further details about the centre can be found at www.capeadventure.co.uk
We were visited by the BBC who filmed our cake sale, held to raise funds for the BBC's Children in Need. The resulting clips were then shown on London News and then at regular intervals throughout the evening's programme. Four of our children, accompanied by Mr Davies, were invited to attend the event and interviewed by a presenter.
At the end of last half term elections were held for the new School Council. The first of their fortnightly meetings takes place on Friday 13th November.
Hornsby House Artwork at Royal Charity Polo Match Artwork produced by several Hornsby House children was displayed at an international royal polo match in July, in aid of three charities for which the Prince of Wales, Prince William & Prince Harry are patrons. We have been informed that the artwork was much admired and the judges were delighted to award the school a PC World gift voucher.
